Hurstville - Reflection from the team

Along with this 12-weeks challenge, our team has really noticed a shift in how we work and think. We’re taking a moment to breathe before we speak, which has made conversations calmer and clearer. We’ve started to work with what is, meeting challenges as they come instead of getting stuck on how things used to be. Keeping our eyes up has helped us see the bigger picture and notice opportunities we might have missed before.

We’re pausing before processing, giving each other space to be heard, and we’re letting go of old habits, choosing not to grab the old map when it doesn’t fit anymore. By lowering the volume in discussions and slowing things down just a little, we’ve made room for more thoughtful decisions. Most importantly, we’ve been staying curious a little longer, asking questions and exploring ideas instead of rushing to answers. These changes are subtle but meaningful, and they’ve shifted how we work together and how we care for our patients.

On a personal level, as an Assistant Store Leader, I’ve noticed changes in how I approach my role as well. I’m learning to pause more, to breathe then speak, which helps me respond rather than react in challenging situations. I’m working to stay curious a little longer, asking questions and understanding before jumping to solutions. Letting go of old ways and not grabbing the old map has allowed me to lead with fresh ideas and more flexibility. I’m also trying to lower the volume in stressful moments and slow 5%, giving space for reflection and better decision-making. These small shifts are helping me support my team more effectively and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment in the store.

@Zara Qiu - This is an awesome post. What I really like about it is that you and the team are not only finding the strategies helpful when supporting customers but also more broadly in your role. We often compartmentalise don't we - there is work, then career then personal stuff. But actually - our brain doesn't care. It just deals with what is in front of it. It sounds like you are well and truly in road-test mode. I can't wait to hear which of the strategies start bubbling to the surface as your favourites.
