When we are attempting to solve big problems, we can be so close to them that we can no longer see the big picture. This can mean that instead of trying to solve the problem as a whole, we attempt to solve parts of it. This can feel satisfying in the short term because we feel like at least we're doing something. However, only solving part of a big problem doesn't address the issue and it's only a matter of time before the problem repairs itself and emerges again in the business. A while ago I was down on the pier near where I live (watch the video below). There is this sculpture and when you look at the different parts, they don’t make sense. But when you stand back, it becomes clear what the big picture is and therefore, what each part is about.
If you’re facing a big problem at the moment, perhaps it's time to just take a moment and step back from it. A new perspective might be exactly what you need to solve it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
