Doncaster team reflection: Winning Through Listening and Insight
March is always full of disruptions and challenges. However this year we are more prepared. By participating in this fun mindset activity, we have gained a lot of energy and confidence to ride the “wave.”
Winning isn’t about rushing , it’s about riding the wave with awareness, insight, and strategy. By listening deeply, understanding what members truly want, and positioning our value with confidence, we strengthened both our team’s effectiveness and the quality of our member conversations.
Here are the individual team member’s reflection on the challenge and impacts:
Narges:
This challenge helped me stay more focused when serving customers. Instead of overthinking or stressing, I’ve been able to stay present in the moment and give better attention to each customer.
William:
This challenge reminded me to stay in “surfing mode” instead of going back to my old habits. I’ve been more curious in my interactions with customers and more open in how I respond, rather than just following the same routine.
Anika:
As a leader, this was really rewarding to see. I felt proud watching the team engage with the challenge and hearing them share their experiences. It was encouraging to see the positive impact it had on everyone.
One thing that really stood out for me was “don’t flatten the mountain.” In my role, there are always disruptions and it’s easy to jump into quick solutions based on assumptions. This challenge reminded me to take a step back, look at the full picture, and understand the situation before reacting.
Cecilia:
I realised I don’t often slow down and really observe myself. I’ve been focused on building confidence and staying in my comfort zone, so I assumed I was already performing at my best.
This challenge gave me a chance to reflect more deeply, to question myself, listen more, and recognise areas I hadn’t noticed before. It helped me see where I can continue to grow.
Jeremy:
“Calm” is my biggest takeaway from this challenge. It’s a simple word, but it means a lot. March has been a challenging month, and I’ve been constantly adapting and learning. I’m still pushing myself to improve, but now I’m doing it while staying calm and focused, and becoming a better version of myself.
April:
This challenge has been really meaningful for me and the team. I realised I’ve been operating in my usual way, but there are opportunities to shift my mindset and create better outcomes for both customers and me.
Moving from “swimmer mode” to “surfing mode” hasn’t been easy, but I’m learning to adjust and stay open to change. It’s a process, but I’m building that mindset step by step.

@Anika Jiang It sounds like it has been a positive couple of weeks for you and the Doncaster Team. I love all the photos. I am delighted that you've found the challenge not only useful but energising. Sometimes when I tell people that disruption can be energising, they are sceptical and yet, as you and the team are discovering, when we give our brain the right space, structure and strategies, it can switch the whole experience.
I really enjoyed reading the teams reflections - everyone takes away something different which is refreshing. I can see that the "ONE QUESTION FIRST" strategy card. Also, one of my FAVES! Keep asking those questions - the more you practice, the more energising it will be and the better outcomes you're achieve.
